How can I measure the bore diameter of my L.C. Smith shotgun?

A number of barrel micrometers are available. The excellent Stan Baker barrel micrometer is available from the Shotgun Sports Magazine’s Shootn’ Accessories. They sell a CSP Universal four gauge set (no mention of 16 gauge) for $450, a 12 gauge for $325, and a 12 gauge Short Set for $225. Drew uses a Skeet’s Shotgun Bore Gauge from Brownells (Item No. 843-200-126) for 12 and 16 gauge for about $90. To use the gauge, zero the micrometer to 0 using the provided 0.700 ring. The tool is easy to use, but be sure the bore is clean and re-zero with the ring every time you take a measurement.
